Cine Europa 24: The Biggest & Longest Running Film Festival In The Philippines

Cine Europa 24 is the biggest, and longest running Film Festival in the Philippines.  Usually, the Festival starts out in Manila and then goes on a tour around the Philippines.

Taking it ‘On Tour’ gives Filipino’s living around the country a chance to see new and classic, critically acclaimed European films.

This year Cine Europa is being offered online.  Just visit the website and register for your free ticket to livestream the films.   Only 100 tickets will be available for each film showing but each film will be screened at least twice.

This year there are Ten films from Germany, Austria, Finland, Denmark, Italy, Spain, Belgium, France, The Czech Republic and Sweden.  And Four films that were made in partnership by two or more European countries.

 

This year’s submissions include films about:

  • A memorable summer and first love for a 14 year old girl (Kokon)
  • A complicated, rude and difficult world-renowned perfumer, who meets her match in her new Driver (Les Parfums)
  • A funny play-turned-film about a Homeowners Association meeting, where nothing is achieved (Vlastnici)
  • A documentary following Emma and her friends, who have disabilities, and their dream to break into the Catwalk and Fashion industry (Catwalk)
  • An art mystery documentary, looking at the breadcrumbs and clues to be found in the painting Las Meninas, known as the ‘most widely interpreted piece of art in history’, by Velázquez (El Cuardo)
  • A mother’s desperate attempts to protect the sexual purity of her seminary-attending son, from the passions of a beautiful girl. (Italy)
  • A modern take on the Hans Christian Anderson fairytale, The Little Mermaid (The Lure)

Cine Europa is organized annually by the Delegation of the European Union to the Philippines, together with the EU Member States with the EU Cultural Institutes.

The Film Festival has proved to be a great way for the European Union to showcase Europe’s cultural diversity to people in the Philippines.

With more and more Filipino’s applying for passports and visas to visit Europe, the films chosen offer a great insight in to language, culture and humor.
